A grey to win the 2008 John Smith's Grand National - 9/1 at Stanjames

Pete Culshaw - 27 Mar 2008

There has not been a grey winner of the Grand National since Nicolaus Silver became the second of the legendary Fred Rimell's four Aintree successes back in 1961. There are potentially four greys in next week's line-up including the mid-week gamble King Johns Castle. Stan James have opened a market as to whether there will be a grey winner forty seven years on and offer 9/1 that the winner of the John Smith's Grand National 2008 is a grey.

Head of PR Charlie McCann: "As well as King Johns Castle (16/1), Alan King yesterday suggested at Kempton that Warwick Totesport Chase winner D'Argent (40/1) would be given the green light to run in the Big One. Champion trainer Paul Nicholls has yet to commit Turko (33/1) to the race and Ossmoses (33/1) needs rain and a number to come out, but if AP McCoy is confirmed as the jockey for King Johns Castle it is possible that Arthur Moore's challenger will alone go off in single figures, and the price on D'Argent is likely to contract if King confirms his eleven-year-old as a runner".

On the Classic front Godolphin's Ibn Khaldun was cut from 8s into 7s for the Stan James 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 3rd."
