Ireland, which has won six of the last nine Aintree Grand Nationals, accounted for around one in four of the entries announced for the Grand National.

Irish trainers have supplied 38 of the 150 entries for the 2008 Grand National. Challengers include 2005 winner Hedgehunter and 10-times Group One winner Beef Or Salmon.

Paul Nicholls has made seven entries, headed by impressive Becher Chase winner Mr Pointment.

Last year's winner, 33-1 outsider Silver Birch, has been ruled out by injury but connections of fast-finishing 2007 runner-up McKelvey hope to go one better after the horse's recovery from a tendon injury.

"He looks as good as he has ever been," said trainer Peter Bowen. "McKelvey is in good form and he will probably have a spin over hurdles at the beginning of March."

A maximum of 40 runners will face the starter on the big day.
