The Midnight Club is now the 10/1 clear favourite for the John Smith's
Grand National with Aintree's official betting partner totesport after a total
of 74 horses were left in the race at the latest forfeit stage.
Only eight horses were taken out of the race today with the weights headed
by last year's winner Don't Push It who is a 16/1 shot with totesport to win
back-to-back renewals of the race.
The Irish-trained duo of Backstage and Oscar Time are next in the market at
12/1 with the quartet of Ballabriggs, Big Fella Thanks, Silver By Nature and
What A Friend all 14/1 shots, the latter having been cut from 16/1 this
morning.
"With Daryl Jacob set to continue his burgeoning partnership with What A
Friend, it would come as a huge surprise to see Ruby Walsh ride anything apart
from The Midnight Club and this alone should be enough to see Willie Mullins'
gelding go off at the head of the market in just over two weeks time," said
totesport spokesman George Primarolo.
totesport make it a 9/4 chance that the winner is trained in Ireland whilst
it's 7/1 that champion trainer Paul Nicholls breaks his duck in the race this
year. Ruby Walsh is 10/1 to ride his third Grand National winner whilst AP McCoy
is 14/1 to double up in the race having won it for the first time on Don't Push
It last year.
