How to Bet on the Grand National

Luke Williams

Here's how to bet on the Grand National

  1. Go to Paddypower
  2. Pick a horse - any horse, by clicking on its name.
  3. Your horse will appear in the area called the betslip. If you decide you don't like the horse you have chosen, click "Clear betslip" and start again.

On the betslip enter your stake. Check the E/W box if you want to place an each way bet. An 'each way' bet is effectively two bets of the same value: one on the win, and the other on a 'place'. A 'place' is a finish in the first 5 places in the Grand National (only 4 places with lesser bookies). Your bet on a place will play ¼ odds, so £10 each way (€£0 total stake) on an 8/1 shot will return £30 if the horse is placed and a whole £120 if the horse wins!  There's no hard and fast rule but an each way bet is usually preferred for a long shot whilst 'win-only' is more suitable for a well-fancied horse.

That's it
